The Pune Heritage Festival had its humble origins in 2012, then known as‘Virasat Pune Heritage Week’, which was initiated to commemorate the World Heritage Day on the 18th of April. Since then, the ‘Heritage Week’ has grown by leaps and bounds with the support of the people of the city!

One of its kind, the Heritage Festival is a large voluntary effort of over 30 organizations and institutes who participate annually to celebrate heritage.  Apart from awareness and sensitization, the festival offers opportunity to several small organizations to benefit from a collective promotional platform to showcase their work and legacy.

In a short period this festival has helped newer businesses in heritage tourism to evolve. It has created necessary buzz around heritage activities further opening new vistas. Festival activities include various heritage walks, nature trails, bus tours, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, cultural events, cycle rallies, games & quiz competitions, campus tours, film screenings and much more. Most of these events are free of participation fee with the aim to engage people and make heritage fun!

The festival is a unique format created and anchored by one of the leading Pune based NGO- Janwani. Since 2015 the festival is jointly conducted with Intach-Pune Chapter.
